http://www.backspingolfmagazine.com/index.php?/golfcourseranking/

this is done by Irish for the Irish and they make a clear distinction between links and parkland... a great idea considering they are just so different.

European Club and Ballybunion could switch places and RCD could switch with Portmarnock for my #1

The Irish are not too scientific are they....I see it is purely based on a poll of favourites.....

ie NSTI

Which is the the way trhe original GOLF magazine rankings work.
They seem to thinlk the nsti is what makes a golf outing, I can't argue with that

Is the forum trip still going through? I decided I cannot join that trip, I cannot spare a week's leave now, but I am trying to do a long weekend trip instead.

Fly on Thursday evening, 36 holes golf on Friday (Royal Portrush), 36 on Saturday (Ballyliffen) and 18 on Sunday (Castle Rock).

A slight problem is that there is only one daily flight between Amsterdam and Belfast (direct flights), so that schedule is dependant on my contact coming through and getting as a very early (06:30-ish) tee-off at Castle Rock on the Sunday. Most courses do not allow visitors before 09:30.

An alternative would be to look at the Dublin area instead, where I will be more flexible with flights and don't have to have an early Sunday game to make it to the airport for the return flight.

But GT, I assume I really should try to do the north first, right?

DB - why no Portstewart or RCD?

Knew you would ask Smile

RCD - there's nothing else in the area, only Ardglass. Kinda set on Ballyliffin & Royal Portrush, then Portsteward poses the same problem I found at most others: can't get an early tee-off on Sunday so I can make it back to Belfast for a 14:35 flight home. Castle Rock is still touch & go.

Nothing set yet.

I'm trying to squeeze in as much as possible in 3 days. Expect to be dead beat after it, but hopefully it will be worth it!

That is/was the other option. Logistics back home makes that very difficult.

UNLESS: we do the trip Sat/Sun/Mon golf... but then we run into problems with getting teetimes as visitors on weekend. Royal Portrush eg.

Yip, but it is sometime flawed....Pinnacle Point ......super high NSTI....kak-ish course....ok not kak-ish but certainly flawed.

But I agree a ranking system could do well to have NSTI as a category, and with significant weighting.

Greenfee: €100 to play both their courses on the same day. About R1000. Or R500 per course. Sounds like excellent value compared to some places in SA.

This will be my golfing goal now... to play the top 30 links courses on that rankings.

If all goes well, I should have 5/30 in June. I'll start by ticking off numbers 3, 14, 16, 18 and 26. Hopefully.
