Golf Digest course rating system
Shot Values (out of 20 points)
How well does the course pose risks and rewards, and equally test length, accuracy and finesse. As can be seen - this category counts double points.
 
Playability (out of 10 points)
How well does the course challenge low-handicap golfers while still providing enjoyable options for high-handicappers.
 
Resistance to Scoring (out of 10 points)
How difficult, yet fair, is the course for a scratch player, from the back tees.
 
Design Variety (out of 10 points)
How varied are the holes in length, terrain, hazard placements, and green contours?
 
Aesthetics (out of 10 points)
How well do the scenic values of the course, including backdrops, add to the enjoyment?
 
Memorability (out of 10 points)
How well do features provide individuality to each hole yet a collective continuity to the 18?
 
Conditioning (out of 10 points)
In what shape are the greens, tees and fairways?
 
Our panel assigns one of the following points to each of the criteria:

1 - Unacceptable

2 - Poor

3 - Tolerable

4 - Acceptable

5 - Good

6 - Very Good

7 - Excellent

8 - Exceptional

9 - Truly Outstanding

10 - Absolutely Perfect.
